Belly Dance Summer School: Delft Sa’idi Sessions

67,50

Join us for three Thursdays in Delft to learn raqs-al-assaya (“stick dance”)! The first 6 people to sign up will receive their own assah (stick)!

As belly dancers, we refer to a dance performed to music from the Said region (upper/Southern Egypt) as sa’idi. The more correct name for this dance is raqs-al-assaya (sometimes transliterated differently), which means stick dance. It is a dance that is based off tahtib, a combat sport/dance performed by men from the Upper Egypt region. This combat ‘dance’ is often followed by an improvised dance with the stick, so the dancer can further display his dexterity and skill. It has become commonplace for a belly dance to perform some staged version of “sa’idi” dance is their performance set.

This is an open-level class; a desire to grow and be challenged in a supportive environment is encouraged! See our belly dance class level descriptions here.

Classes are on Thursday August 12, 19 and 26 from 18:30-20:00, outdoors in Delft near the TU. (Exact location details will be sent to you after registration). Rain dates if classes must be rescheduled will be provided.
